Northern Safety Camera Partnership

Facts and Figures

During 2006/2007, 226 people were killed or seriously injured as a result of road accidents within the Northern Constabulary Area. In addition, 873 people sustained slight injuries.

Research shows that excessive speed is a factor in many road collisions where death and serious injury occur.

The UK Government, the Scottish Executive and the National Assembly for Wales all announced a National Road Strategy and set casualty reduction targets to be achieved by 2010. The targets are that by 2010 there will be a 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road accidents, a 50% reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured and a 10% reduction in the numbers of those sustaining slight injuries.

Northern Safety Camera Partnership is committed to these targets and the National Road Safety Strategy.
