Northern Safety Camera Partnership deployment w/c 7 May 2012

All our camera sites have a proven history of collisions and evidence of speeding vehicles.  We may from time to time use mobile cameras at other sites where both vehicle and road users are at greater risk, such as road works.

Northern Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Dougie Bennion, said: “As summer approaches we will see an increase in the amount of bike riders sharing the road.

“This week I’m urging both motorcyclists and pedal cyclists to make sure they can be seen by other road users by wearing high visibility clothing.  I’m also appealing to drivers to take an extra few seconds to look out for motorcyclists and pedal cyclists at junctions and before overtaking etc.

“It’s important for all road users to appreciate that ‘riders’ are vulnerable road users and we all need to share the road space considerately.”

‘Bikers’ are involved in around ¼ of all serious and fatal road crashes in the Highlands according to the ‘Don’t risk it’ website.  For this reason we are urging ‘Bikers’ to take advantage of the various groups who deliver information and training opportunities that aim to improve riding skills.”
