Facts and Figures

During 2008/2009, 2,807 people were killed or seriously injured as a result of road collisions across Scotland.  Of these,179 were within the Northern Constabulary area.

Research shows that excessive speed is a factor in many road collisions where death and serious injury occur.

Scottish road safety targets for 2010 - 2020 are set out in the Scottish Government’s ‘Scotland’s Road Safety Framework to 2020’ as follows:

• reduce the number of people killed by 30% by 2015 and 40% by 2020
• reduce the number of people seriously injured by 43% by 2015 and 55% by 2020
• reduce the number of children killed by 35% by 2015 and 50% by 2020
• reduce the number of children seriously injured by 50% by 2015 and 65% by 2020
• a 10% reduction in the slight casualty rate.

Northern Safety Camera Partnership is committed to these targets and the Scottish Government’s Road Safety Strategy.
